This is the 7th book in the Otherworld series and even though I cannot add Galenorn to my list of favorite authors yet, up until now all her books have been/are great ‘in-between’ reads (good to read while waiting for other books to be released). They keep my interest, have good characters, hot encounters, and decent action. The writing style is not quite as good as some other paranormal authors but good nonetheless.
The main sister in this book is Menolly, the half human, half Fae who was turned into a Vampire. In this chapter of her life she finds herself fighting for justice, control of herself and to rid the world of a ridiculous cult trying to summon Shadow Wing. I like her character and her dark issues and I’m also happy that she is beginning to open up and find love again. Unlike her sister Camille, who has so many men she can’t keep them all, Menolly was abused badly by her sire and up until this book we really haven’t been able to see her commit her heart to anyone. As far as the story line goes, all of the Otherworld series are written with a fine balance of humor, R rated sexual encounters and total action hero events. However, with this book she lost me a little bit when the evil demon turns out to be some strange flying squid creature who spawns off unbeatable minions. It wasn’t really funny or scary, it was just … … weird. I’m still on board with the series, but I think she’s been pushed back from a ‘run out the day of the new release’ to a ‘I’ll read it when the library gets it’. Sorry but that’s my opinion.
