Fire Me Up

Fire Me Up

by Katie MacAlister

Pros: The characters are really funny and the stories are refreshingly different.
Cons: To understand this book you have to read the first book, You Slay Me. This is not a stand alone.

Aisling Grey is a normal courier who just keeps falling onto dead bodies. Her reaction to the events are priceless. As is her entrance into the world of the supernatural (in the first book ‘You Slay Me’) which is mostly due to the fact that she is a Guardian. What that job actually entails and whether she can do it is the basis of the storyline.

While trying to determine how to become a Guardian Aisling also keeps falling ‘onto’ this great looking leader of the green dragon clan, Drake, who insists she is his mate… no matter what she thinks. She also tries unsuccessfully to summon a demon to help her solve the murders…what she gets instead is a fairly powerless, annoying dog… who now is bound to her.

Even though I was uncomfortable with the concept of summoning a demon, even in fiction, this book is such a great read that it doesn’t matter. It is meant to be purely humorous with some unrelated romantic encounters and is taken as such. If you love Kim Harrison or Charlaine Harris you should try this series. Its a lightweight fun read, good to take on vacation. It had me actually ordering the third book in the series Light My Fire (because I cant find it at any bookstore) just to find out what happens with Aisling and Drake. Overall this book was funny and cute. I liked it a lot.
