Howling at the Moon

Howling at the Moon

by Karen MacInerney
Pros: Everything about this book is a Pro.
Cons: This book is more of a romance and less of an action packed blood and gore story.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this book. Although I’ve never heard of the author before, I would put her up there easily with Carrie Vaughn, Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong and Keri Arthur. I’m not sure why this book hasnt become huge, except to say that the cover art makes it seem more of a trash read and less of an addictive, ‘can’t put it down’, ‘run out in the middle of the night to find the sequel’ that it is. I found my copy at a used book store and have discovered that there are also some used copies found cheap online. Trust me on this, its worth the money.

MacInerney skillfully blends the human life of the main character (Sophie Garou) with her werewolf side in a fast paced, who-did-it, mystery style romance. The male main characters are strong and intriguing. The pace of the novel is great. The best part of all is that there is a sequel that is already out entitled On the Prowl
that you will want to read as well. I read this book in one night if that gives you any motivation. The only downfall is that, as a huge LK Hamilton fan, this book lacks the extreme X rating that LK Hamilton’s books have. However, the love scenes are intense and I have to confess that once in a while I can do without all the vivid blood and gore.

Basically, this series is the perfect one to read while waiting for your favorite authors next book to come out. I completely enjoyed it.
