Lover Unbound

Lover Unbound

by J.R. Ward

Pros: Just incredible
Cons: ???

What can I say about this series that hasn’t already been said? Not much, but I feel compelled to say it anyway.

Wow! J.R. Ward does it again. Lover Unbound has everything I’ve loved about the previous books in this series and more. Just when you think you know where she’s going, she layers and builds and twists and sends you down a whole different path.

Lover Unbound is the story of Vishous, a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. If you haven’t read the rest of this series – stop right now and go get the first one – Dark Lover. Although theoretically this could be a stand alone book, you will enjoy it so much more if you start at the beginning and get the whole story.

Vishous has had a pretty crappy life. He doesn’t know who his mother was. His father, Bloodletter, was cunning and cruel to everyone, including his own son. On top of that, his hand glows like a beacon and carries the electrical charge of a lightning bolt, and he sees visions of the deaths of his brothers. He’s lived centuries without really caring about anyone except for his Brothers.

Finally he meets Jane, a human surgeon, who accidentally ends up working on him. Immediately he knows he needs to keep her around, so she is brought back to the Brotherhood’s complex to help him recover from his wounds.

I really liked the character of Jane. She is strong, intelligent and always has a smart comeback. She quickly learns how to deal with Vishous and, not unexpectedly, realizes that he is one hot stud. Despite their unorthodox meeting, she goes for it.

But there is so much more to this book than just the story of Vishous and Jane and how they overcome their obstacles – and there are many. Let’s just say that destiny isn’t working with V and Jane and they have to get very creative to get around it.

In addition to the main story, we get to hear more about Phury and John Matthew and we get a few hints about possible future stories (of which I hope there are many!). I won’t ruin this book for you by spelling it all out, I’m just going to tell you to go get this book right now.

What I will say is this – this book is hot sex, it’s heart-rending emotions, and it’s incredible storytelling. It made me cry, it made smile and it made me squirm. It’s everything you read romance for.

Go now. Go fast. Don’t stop until you have this book!
