Perfect is the Enemy of Good

June 7, 2009

Perfect is the Enemy of Good.   Such a simple concept. And so very, very true.

I am very guilty of this. I spend hours wasting time looking for The One True Recipe before I begin to cook. Dinner at my house has been very late (or even given up on and pizza ordered) many times for this very reason. The garage remains cluttered because I’m waiting for the perfect day to begin cleaning it.

But think about this in terms of money. Savings accounts remain empty because there’s not enough to bother putting in it. Not enough? Why is $20 not enough? $10? $5? Even $1? If $1 out of every paycheck since I first began working had gone into a savings account and remained there, think how much would be there now.

Perfect is the Enemy of Good. Most times, Good is good enough. Don’t wait for Perfect!
